Marty Wingate is a Seattle-based Master Gardener with a master’s degree in urban horticulture.

She writes about gardens, gardening and horticulture. Her features appear every Saturday in the seattle@home section of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and in Seattle Metropolitan magazine. She writes for national magazines, including Fine Gardening, Organic Gardening and The American Gardener, and also for Northwest Garden News.

Her first book, Big Ideas for Northwest Small Gardens, was published by Sasquatch Books in February, 2003, and her second book, The Big Book of Northwest Perennials, was released in February of 2005.

Marty regularly leads small groups on garden tours to the U.K. and to Ireland to get to know the gardeners as well as the gardens.

She is a member several horticultural organizations, including the Arboretum Foundation, Northwest Horticultural Society, Northwest Perennial Alliance, the Royal Horticultural Society.
